classic cylon

(no subject)

Today was my chorus' annual retreat. We met at a new location, the Presentation Center,
just outside of Los Gatos. This location is a bit more open and spacious than our
previous meeting place just outside of Saratoga. It was good to work on the music, but
even more so to relax and not have to think about work and stuff for a while.

The return trip was marred by a massive traffic jam. CA 17 is a four-lane highway as it
makes its way through the Santa Cruz mountains, which makes it a prime candidate for
traffic jams on sunny days when lots of people go to the beach. So when I saw the
traffic, I thought it was just people coming home from the beach, and that things would
clear out once we merged. But there was a traffic fatality where CA 17 and 9 meet, so we
hardly moved until we reached that junction.

When I got home, I was feeling pretty good, despite sitting for over an hour in traffic
– (almost) no pain in my right shoulder (it's been acting up some – looks like
more RSI to deal with). And after logging in and catching up on some email, I was still
feeling pretty good. But my shoulder started hurting again after going through some of my
US mail to throw out some of what's been piling up. I tried to relax afterwards, but I
still felt pain. Finally, after making some adjustments to my PuTTY ssh window, things
got better. I think the problem is neck strain from looking down towards the bottom of
the screen. (It doesn't affect me at work (as much) because I have a docking station and
a full-size monitor.) But it does concern me that I can't find a comfortable position to
use my laptops at home. When taking into account all the extra work I need to do to keep
abreast of things related to my job, there's not enough time to do it all in the office.
I have to spend time on my laptops at home.
