RIP Coretta Scott King, Gene McFadden

Coretta Scott King, wife of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, died last night at the age of 78. Mrs. King had taken up her husband's legacy of civil rights activism after his death.

Also, Gene McFadden, part of the singer-songwriter duo McFadden and Whitehead, died last Friday at the age of 56. The duo had written several classic Philly soul songs such as Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes' Wake Up Everybody. They also had their own smash hit, Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, which was popular in NYC around the time I graduated from Stuy in 1979. It was sort of an anthem for me and a few of my friends, and is also appropriate to the passing of Mrs. King.
