Oh well ... the Mets didn't quite make it again this year. Second year in a row they fell short. This year they had no bullpen (in particular, no closer, after Billy Wagner went down). Last year the starting pitching fell apart down the stretch.

Almost 35 years ago to the day, the Mets won a critical game and went on to the postseason. If I have time, I'll post some memories of those games. (An interesting observation from that box score is that the Mets' closer Tug McGraw pitched three innings of relief. That almost never happens today.)

Almost forgot to mention that today's game was the last one at Shea. Lots of memories of either going there, watching games played there on TV, or driving by Shea on the Grand Central Parkway or Van Wyck Expressway.
