Today was a stressful day at work. Due to some shifting priorities, I had to get some things done right away, which meant I missed rehearsal. As I wrote earlier, this is going to happen from time to time, especially in these first few months when I'm learning my way around. The time will come when I can do this stuff easily, but for now, since I'm still learning, things take longer than they might otherwise. Also, there were some unexpected complexities, such as having to use an older version of VMware to host OpenBSD because the VMware download site was very slow. Throughout the entire process, I was a bit uneasy, because this was a non-standard setup, and I get uncomfortable when setting things up on Windows in non-standard ways.

Since I took public transportation today, I didn't get caught in the bad weather on the roads, but I couldn't get back in time to get to rehearsal. The light rail passes by Yahoo, which announced future layoffs yesterday. While passing by Yahoo, I thought of being laid off by them back in 2004, and not wanting anything like that to happen again. I don't like to miss rehearsals, but I would like it much less if I were unemployed again. Hopefully, this won't happen too often, but if it does, I'll have to deal with it somehow. Several other people in my chorus who work in tech miss rehearsals sometimes. One person even had to quit because work was taking up too much time.
