I found another west side geek, Steve Balzac, who lived in New House while I was at the
'tute. I'm not sure I knew him personally, but his name and face are very familiar.

I'm finding that many MIT alums who were CS majors while I was a student have left the field.
This is very disquieting.

And why not leave?
Employers want to offshore the work, or bring in H1s for cheap. The rest want to hire college kids and do the work in java. They don't give a fuck about the long-term consequences; all they care about is the bottom line.

I probably should've worded my initial post differently. I'm not surprised my former CS classmates aren't in CS anymore ... just disappointed. Doesn't bode well for me, but I'm already applying for other types of jobs.

How about you ... do you ever miss being a software engineer?
