Just a quickie continuation of my train of thought from yesterday
... I wonder how good a pianist (or computer scientist, or vocalist,
or dancer) I might have been able to be if I'd had private instruction
when I was younger, or I'd taken college classes earlier? What I am
seeing from some of the kids who are taking lessons is that their
parents have a very good idea of where their kids are heading, and
they are grooming their kids to have all the tools they will need when
they get there. Of course there are extremes to this ... we've all
heard about parents who pushed their kids into things that they didn't
want to do and their kids wound up resenting them for it.
